OLD TESTAMENT LAWS ARE NOT ALL DECLARED VOID AND MEANINGLESS. Some Interesting Truths Are Found In The Old Testament Laws. When speaking of Old Testament laws there is a need to differentiate between the Ten Commandments and the other laws.

When you ask “according to Christianity” this is the same as saying “according to the government”. Who is the government? Who is Christianity?

There are many people who claim to be Christians and have no knowledge of what is written in the Bible. Then there are those who read what is written in the Bible who have no relationship with the Author. And of those who claim to have a relationship with the Author, not all actually seek to know the truth. Many are indoctrinated or presumptuous. Those that seek to know the truth are more circumspect and less likely to be opinionated. They are more inclined towards looking for reasons why a person does not accept the obvious.

Those who desire the truth, ask the Lord God to reveal to them the truth. These individuals are willing to investigate and examine what they come across, prayerfully, because they desire to know the truth. For these people understand that the only the truth will set them free.

Many people claiming to be Christians say that the Old Testament has no bearing on matters today. Yet as soon as they quote the Old Testament they have demonstrated that their word is erroneous because they make false statements and then think nothing of demonstrating their fallacy as truth.

If someone accepts the Bible from Genesis to Revelation as the revealed written word of God, then that person cannot reject some Scripture while accepting contradicting texts. Most people who claim to be Christians will state that the Bible is the revealed written word of God.

As for the laws of the Old Testament applying today, we have to understand the purpose of the Bible. The Old Testament bears witness to Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself said:
  • You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me (John 5:39).
The Apostle Paul talking about the Old Testament writes:
  • I have applied all this to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brethren, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another. (1 Corinthians 4:6)
  • They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them. (Romans 2:15)
  • For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. (Romans 15:4)
The Old Testament bears witness to Lord Jesus Christ and what God is doing to bring about His purpose in the world. Much of what is written in the Lawsapplies to what is happening today. People may scoff at what is written therein, but it applies today even if there as certain things that have been fulfilled already in the appearance of the Son of God. In this respect, the ceremonial laws have been cancelled. But there are laws, statutes, commandments, and directives that still apply. Those who disregard them, do so at their own misfortune or peril. As it is written, what the law requires is written on everybody’s heart and is called our inner recognition of right and wrong—conscience.

The Commandment Of The Lord Is Exceedingly Broad, More So Than You Think
