EVERYBODY KNOWS THE GOLDEN RULE OR AT LEAST THEY SHOULD. But What Is The Golden Rule? There appears to be a number of versions.

The Ten Commandments contain the Golden Rule: one should treat others as one would like to be treated oneself.

The Ten Commandments are not limited to a few little rules like most people think. Most people are very ignorant of what the Ten Commandments are about. Yet these are the only words ever written by God Himself.

The man who had a perfect heart declared: "I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad." (Psalm 119:96)

Here are four of the Ten Commandments that contain the Golden Rule.
  1. You shall not murder.
  2. You shall not commit adultery
  3. You shall not steal
  4. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
When one understands that animosity towards other people leads to harm and hatred, and eventually to murder, it is possible to see the extent of commandment's coverage in respect to human relationships.

When one understands that adultery includes every sexual activity that is not conducted with the first and only partner of the opposite sex as an expression of unadulterated love, then it is possible to see how much conflict within human interaction can be avoided. Thus to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself, in this respect, applies especially to the prohibition of adultery in the broader sense.

Who likes second best when they can have the best? Why go to the sewer when you can have what is pure? And who likes to be raped?

When one understands that stealing includes taking anything without permission, the full gamut of how easy it is to steal becomes apparent and what this means for human interaction. (Could we say taking offense without permission is stealing? Or is this too broad?)

When one understands that bearing false witness includes anything that is not true, and no one likes being told white lies, treating others as one would like to be treated is covered here. (But then many like being told lies, especially when it comes to flattery. Deception is a weird thing. But in the end, I suppose it is like wetting the bed. And not so enjoyable after all.)

Essentially, these four commandments seem to cover the Golden Rule. But who keeps the Golden Rule? Or Who has kept the Golden Rule, that they can boast?

No person over the age of four years of age that I have met yet has managed to keep the Golden Rule that is covered by those four commandments. If you have, please introduce yourself to me. I will be delighted to me you.

Maybe the question should be: Why is it people do not understand the Ten Commandments contain the Golden Rule?
